Miriam’s Scavenger Hunt

Thanks to my fabulous BFF team for coordinating this scavenger hunt blog hop to celebrate the launch of Miriam, my second book in the Treasures of the Nile series!

Miriam Scavenger Hunt Blog Hop

My page is the start of the hunt, and you’ll finish your journey at Mommynificent.com. At the bottom of this post, you can find the full list of stops for the entire hunt. Between March 15th and 20th, click on the next link, head over to the page, meet a new book-lover, and read their thoughts about Miriam.

Somewhere in each post there will be a single word that is in BOLD AND ALL CAPITALS. Write it down. (The words “Home” and “Good Luck” are not secret words for anyone.)

Then, go to the next stop. That post will also have a word that’s bolded and capitalized. You will need to visit all 14 blogs as each one will have a word that you need. Once you reach the end and have found all the words, you will have found an inspirational quote from the book Miriam.

There are 14 words in this quote. Enter the quote into the Rafflecopter on the last stop and you will be entered to win a Kindle Fire! (Open to U.S. residents only)

If you have any questions, get lost, or experience any technical difficulties, you may email Tina at tina{at}mommynificent{dot}com for help.

Now, let’s talk about the book…

Miriam by Mesu Andrews

About the Book

Title: Miriam

Author: Mesu Andrews

Series: Treasures of the Nile, Book 2

Publication Date: March 15, 2016

Publisher: WaterBrook Press

Print Length: 384 pages

Summary from the publisher: At eighty-six, Miriam had devoted her entire life to loving El Shaddai and serving His people as both midwife and messenger. Yet when her brother Moses returns to Egypt from exile, he brings a disruptive message. God has a new name – Yahweh – and has declared a radical deliverance for the Israelites.

Miriam and her beloved family face an impossible choice: cling to familiar bondage or embrace uncharted freedom at an unimaginable cost. Even if the Hebrews survive the plagues set to turn the Nile to blood and unleash a maelstrom of frogs and locusts, can they weather the resulting fury of the Pharaoh?

Enter an exotic land where a cruel Pharaoh reigns, pagan priests wield black arts, and the Israelites cry out to a God they only think they know.

My Thoughts about Miriam

This was a special project for me because I wrote Miriam with a personal consultant, someone who could give insight into Miriam’s physical, emotional, and spiritual being that I–as a fifty-two year-old woman–might not understand. I needed the perspective of my eighty-six year-old mama to better understand the end-of-life feelings that would have turned Miriam’s life upside down when YAHWEH decided to change everything.

Can you imagine at all the change they endured? Granted, the Israelites were freed from bondage, but think about the uncertainty they faced. They’d never seen this Promised Land of Canaan. Most hadn’t stepped outside of Goshen. Honestly, I don’t even like shopping at a different grocery store!

Perhaps the scariest change of all came in Miriam’s view of her God. Throughout her life He’d been quiet, powerful, and faithful…in a distant sort of way. But with Moses’s return from Midian, YAHWEH began showing His power in epic, sweeping displays–unpredictable at best, terrifying at worst. How could she explain Him to others when she wasn’t sure of the answers to her own questions?

Perhaps the greatest lesson I learned while writing Miriam lies at the end of this scavenger hunt–in the inspirational quote you’ll find. Have fun on your next stop!

  8. I so enjoyed reading about your experience writing Miriam. This scavenger hunt is so cool! Miriam is just as good as everyone says. Love your books, Mesu!

  9. Something that hit me at the beginning of this book, Miriam would not have been a young woman or in her 30s as she seems to always be portrayed. Since Moses was 80, she WOULD have been much in her mind 80 s too. And while 80s might have been different back then, women were still done with things like menopause, (Sarai had laughed at the idea of having kids because she was past child bearing years, and that was over 500 years before Miriam was born.

    • Doesn’t it make a HUGE difference to our understanding of Scripture when we stop to get the FACTS! I love how it comes alive when we realize these folks were real people and we acknowledge their humanness…flaws and victories. 😉
